Ramblers descending through early autumn foliage.
About us
What primarily distinguishes the Ramblers is our creative hiking choices; we're constantly scouting new areas and trying out new approaches to familiar territory. The club takes full advantage of the great diversity of hiking environments in the NYC metropolitan area from city parks to beaches, canals, abandoned railroads, woods roads and trails from the Catskills to the Jersey Pine Barrens and all points in between.
We go out every Sunday throughout the year with some long holiday weekends and week-long trips farther afield. In addition, the club has frequent Saturday walks, usually in the urban environment, which can range from exploring a colorful neighborhood to traversing the length of an iconic thoroughfare such as Flatbush Avenue or the Grand Concourse. We've hiked out West and in Canada, Europe, and Africa.
Annual membership dues are $4.00 for individuals and $5.00 for couples. There is a one time initiation fee of $1.00. There are currently about 130 Ramblers.

As a member of the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, the Ramblers currently maintain the entire State Line Trail from Greenwood Lake to its terminus at the Appalachian Trail and, in Harriman Park, the Nurian Trail between the Stahahe Brook Trail and Southfields. Trail maintenance is a rewarding and social activity and a great way to give back to the hiking community. Volunteers are welcome!
